a beautiful life.

At the end of this life

if you can say

I did some things

I really, really enjoyed

and helped some people

along the way

all the while

laboring loves labyrinth

then that

I’d say

is a beautiful life.

yours to keep.

There’s hope out there in the sunshine

and there’s hope in here in the darkness

I’m sure of it, you know

it’s kind of like early in the morning

when fog hangs around mountaintops

there’s a peak up there

you can’t see it but it’s there

so you climb farther and

farther than you ever imagined

now close your eyes and breathe

and in the darkness of the mind

breathe in all your worries

all the war that is inside

then breathe out and feel

one moments relief

that there is yours

that there is hope

that there is always yours to keep.

Toeing the edge

There is a fine line —
like a tightrope walker
toeing the edge —
between
complaint and contradiction
that makes me want to set
this whole word farm on fire.

KAZAAM! Nothing good ever came from a cash grab.

For those still trying

to make a statement

no matter how bleak

the future may seem

do not forget Kazaam

in fact, it can be used

in many different ways,

like inspiration

to aspire to be anything but,

or contempt

to actually have something to say,

and just for kicks

to have a good laugh at the system,

nothing good ever came

from a cash grab, except

the idea, the certainty

that money isn’t everything,

that you can do far better

without a twenty-million dollar

Hollywood budget.

True Inspiration.

More often than not,

we mistake our inspiration, for

celebrity,

strangers,

the grass that’s always greener,

when in reality,

our greatest inspiration, comes from

classmates,

lovers,

past or present acquaintance,

who showed us talent we sought to mirror,

who we quickly forgot,

fully unaware,

blinded

by the riches that whisper, like

serpents,

the sweet, sweet nothings of the stage –

the merest hint of our true inspiration.
